Chalki

🎬 Relaxing Chalki

📍 Chalki is a small island that belongs to the Dodecanese and is located between Rhodes and Tilos.

✔ Chalki is a peaceful island with a charming picturesque capital, wonderful landscapes and beautiful beaches!

▪ Inhabited since prehistoric times, Chalki got its name from the copper mines (Chalkos in Greek) that existed on the island in Antiquity.

▪ Chalki has good boat connections with Rhodes and the surrounding islands. Tourists can also visit Chalki on organized day trips from Rhodes.

▪ The economic prosperity and well-being of the island was a period in the 19th century, thanks to trade and sponge harvesting, which is reflected in the beautiful neoclassical buildings of the capital.

▪ Only about 450 people live on the island and the only settlement is Chalki (Niborio).

▪ Chalki is a great choice for a quiet and laid-back holiday on the beaches, as well as for hiking through beautiful natural landscapes to many churches and historical sites.

Chalki (Nimporio)

Lovely Chalki (Nimporio)

The Chalki capital is a lovely and scenic place, amphitheater built around the aborable port and on the hill above.

As the boat approaches the port, visitors will be impressed by the extremely picturesque place with beautiful colorful neoclassical stone two or three-storey houses. Nimporio has been declared a Heritage Town.

A real visual pleasure is a walk through narrow alleys with wonderful colorfully painted houses and pretty courtyards paved with black and white stone mosaic floors.

A pleasure is a walk along the promenade along the adorable harbor where are traditional taverns and cafes and cute fishing boats are anchored. You should sit down and enjoy in wonderful sight on gorgeous fishing boats anchored floating in the transparent turquoise sea full of various fish. A visual paradise for the senses and the soul!

Among the buildings, the imposing high stone clock tower stands out, next to which is the white neoclassical building of the Town Hall.

Nearby, the grand bell tower of the beautiful church of Agios Nikolaos from 1861 stands out. Agios Nikolaos is the patron saint of the island. In the church courtyard there is a nice black and white stone pebble mosaic. In the church there is an icon carved in wood with beautiful details and exceptional murals.

Don’t miss the windmills on top of the hill above the capital.

Horio

Horio is located 3 km from the capital in a hill on a mountain slope.

Medieval village, once capital, abandoned at the end of the 19th century when the threat of pirates ended.

On top of a steep hill above the Horio, there is an imposing medieval castle with strong high walls.

The castle was built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th century. Inside the castle is the abandoned church of Agios Nikolaos.

From the castle there is a magnificent panoramic view of the surroundings and in the distance of Rhodes that leaves you breathless!

Chalki beaches

Chalki beaches

Chalki has beautiful sandy and pebble beaches with interesting landscapes and incredibly crystal clear water.

Peaceful and relaxed ambience on the beaches are perfect for lovers of peace and quiet, as well as for relaxing and enjoying on the Sun.

Some beaches are only accessible by boat and visits are a delicacy for lovers of adventure and cruises.

Trachia

Trachia is an impressive beach that has two sandy beaches on either side and joins the mainland with a small peninsula.

It is located at the foot of a medieval castle from where there is a spectacular view on the incredible beach.

Pure natural beach with crystal clear water is great for swimming and enjoying in the stunning natural scenery.

Pontamos

Pontamos is a great sandy beach with fine sand and turquoise clear water.

The most popular beach located in the immediate vicinity of the capital.

An organized beach with sunbeds and a tavern where you can also enjoy in local food.

Ideal for families with children because of the shallow water, sand and the bay that is protected from strong winds.
